Family Support Services

FRIENDS responds to the whole family through its Family Support Service program. Involving parents in their children’s progress is an important component in meeting young people’s needs.

Each childcare center has an independent Parent Advisory Council. Two seats on the Board of Trustees are reserved for Parent Council representatives. In conjunction with council meetings, education sessions are held on topics from homeownership to stress management.

As a Parent Council project in 2004, over 100 parents at both the Fairfield Childcare Center and the Robert L. Taylor Center petitioned Richmond City Council to place 4-way STOP signs around these two Churchill centers.

Katina Patterson is proud of the STOP signs placed around FRIENDS centers for safety after parents petitioned City Council.
